I was watching The Lost World: Jurassic Park and I note that Pete Postlethwaite is carrying an elephant gun. Seeing as an elephant or rhino weighs up to maybe 2 tons and a T Rex weighs between 5 to 8 tons, I am not certain of exactly how they intended to bring it down if they needed to. I know the chances of encountering an enraged 8 ton chicken are slim in this day and age but I was wondering if there is any hope at all of stopping a hungry Tyrannosaur and what you'd realistically need to do it? Any experienced hunters out there willing to take a shot at it? ;D

you could pobaly kill it by shooting around its vital organs like its heart, brain, eyes, lungs, etc.

But what kind of weapon would you use and from what range? If you saw a T-rex running at you, do you think anyone could hit its eye in a single shot? That would be one hell of a shot even for an experienced hunter. Its lung would be a good choice, but you may need to aim behind its shoulder blade to do this to get at the lung and it would be around the side of the animal, not the front. You couldn't really go for a shot at the lungs from the front (as he charges towards you) as it's protected by heavy duty breastbone and the bullet/round may not even penetrate far enough.

maybe if hes charging at you from the front an assult riffle and for long distance (not charging) a snpier riffle

I probably wouldn't even try. Probably place something between myself and it instead such as a huge boulder or a building for example. Or meaby I could shoot it to the legs and if one managed to cripple it you'd have better chance to actually kill it without getting killed yourself. Probably exploding arrows could do the trick. That, or a hunting rifle similar to one Roland carries(.577 Tyrannosaur I believe).

I would think any type of building of whatever size would be a good enough obstacle, even just to buy time to hide or plan the next move. Maybe I should take this opportunity to confess that I've had some pretty scaring T-rex chase dreams during the 15 yerars since JP was released! I've dreamt being more or less face to face with a Rex and just having a tree between us. This was very scary as the only way to make sure that tree stayed between us was by trying to predict the rexes moves and staying fully focused. A very stressful dream indeed. Another dream involved a Rex chasing me in a van down a straight country road and I really needed to change gear but feared this move would lose me the 20ft gap between the Rex and myself resulting in it getting me! I ended up doing half a mile in 1st gear at 40 miles per hour. To make things worst, a junction was ahead of me, but I wasn't going to stop...straight through red lights and other traffic I went without a second thought! ;D Anyway, enough of that! If a Rex was running toward me and I had to choose a method or weapon to take it out (no rocket launchers please), I think I'd go for an UZI 9mm and aim for the head. I don't expect an Uzi's bullets to be very big, but I should get at least one lethal shot with a full magazine. ;D

This gave me an idea for another discussion. Check the Jurassic Park /// board.
