Ughh!! They look real gross! How big are these mosquitos? They might do the job quite well if you can't find the actual film used ones. Can't wait to see a finished cane! ;D

Those mosquitos are about 6 mm body length. Ok, here's a quick mock-up I did of the Hammond Cane using clay, wood dowel and milliput. I did a quick mold in alginate and cast it in plaster finished with teak woodstain. This is not to be the actual piece, it's just a practice attempt (learning experience) so I can figure out the best way for me to do the final cane.

This is awesome! I just wish the bugs were bigger... you should do one with a praying mantis!

I think the inside of the amber shoulkd be more bumpy and dirty.

Yeah, I will try to add some air bubbles and forest floor material for extra realism. Apart from the mosquito, I don't think Hammond's amber egg had much more than just air bubbles. It's hard to get a really good shot of the amber egg, but I can't see much else in it?

I'm not sure if I'm imagining the amber the digger was holding and the amber cane together though.

Here's a quick update on my giant mosquito in amber! As you can see, the insect is huge and very genuine...not like the crane flies or plastic bugs you might see in other fan made pieces. The mossie is off center unfortunately, but better luck next time. Let me know what you guys think? ;D Attachments:

The cane shaft was sculpted from clay.

Sculpted from both clay and milliput, then molded, cast in resin and finally painted/stained. More jumbo mosquito amber pieces coming soon!
