Remember the scene in Jurassic Park when Muldoon discovers the Raptors had broken free from their Pen? This is a 're-creation' of one of those prints seen scattered around the pen that Muldoon started tracking.
I have sculpted it in clay (wet clay) and started moulding it in quick setting water-based alginate. I plan to make a plaster cast soon. ;D

Can you post some pics of this please, and of the Hammond cane you mention? Is it like the one in the film?

That sounds neat, Did you add plants around the Raptor foot-print base? That would look insanely-wicked.

At the moment the foot cast is just sandy, but the 1/4 rex one I did has small ferns and water inside the print (clear resin). ;D

I would like if you sculpt it more like in mud and make it from fibrglass or resin..sell it unpainted.... I could do that myself and match the ground outside then seal it so I can leave it outdoors... ;D
I'm kind of tempted to make one myself out of sculpey...how big is a Raptor's foot anyway ?

I can't remember the exact size I did my Raptor print, but it was probably around 12" long. If I was to do the print again, would a muddy/sloppy wet surface be better, or a soil texture?

I think the mud looks better myself...it was always raining in the Park or on Sorna... The little Raptor tracks would prob do better if they were added to a base with a half buried broken egg... more like in the film...add a couple of others and you would have the whole scene from Jurassic Park..minus the humans of course..but I could add those myself... ;D |

I've done a mud version of the Raptor print now. If I was to cast it in resin, it would work out quite a lot more expensive than a plaster cast. Which would you prefer? I'll post pics today if I can.
I'll see if I can do anything with the baby Raptor eggs and tracks diorama this weekend.

I'd like to see it for sure.
The plaster I know of is used to cast mostly indoor pieces...that would prob not workout well outdoors due to heavy rain that can cause chipping or freezing weather....say you forgot once and and a little water froze in em'...could crack the whole thing.

How's this for an example? The print itself is around 12". The texture is a kinda wet soil/mud. This would make it easier to match most ground types if painted correctly. I've also made the edges of the plate rough and rounded to make it easier to blend in with surrounding sediments. Let me know what you think?   P.S. As you can see, the clay right now is very wet. There's water collected in the dips which will give you an idea what yours could look like in rainy conditions. Once this has dried out a bit, I'll seal it and start molding. UPDATE!Ok, the print has now been molded and several pieces cast in plaster. Check out the pics!   |
